MAGIC-verse Update

by | Mar 27, 2019

Here we are in the last few days of March. I’m trying to wrap my head around what needs to happen for the launch of the third book of the MAGIC series–MAGIC REDEEMED–in six short weeks.

Spring, and sunshine, and daffodils have arrived on Salt Spring Island. It would be tempting to spend my days gamboling like one of the local lambs.

But, frolicking amongst the flowers is not how this whole authoring thing works. Balance feels elusive. Book #3 of the series went to my editor on time. And then I added more (this is the first time I’ve been concerned that getting to the final version of a book is going to be down to the wire. I also have an upcoming  3-week trip to the other side of the continent to see family).

What this also means is there will be at least one more full-length novel in the MAGIC-verse. Side characters who have been clamoring for side stories tell me no more BIG books until their >little< books are done.

When it all seems overwhelming, I make lists. Here’s the latest:

  • Create a glossary of characters and places (this will be added to the back pages of books 2 & 3. I don’t know how I would create a glossary of characters for book 1 and keep it spoiler-free).
  • Work on Magic Restrained, a novelette (100 pages or so).
  • Prep social media posts.
  • Prep for my talk at the local library (I cannot wait to chatter on about apples, magic, my witches, writing, self-publishing…whatever people want!!!).

I’ll leave you with a tidbit: The image accompanying this post is of Chocolate Beach. It’s a midden beach located on Second Sister Island, which lies in Captain Passage. Getting there is an easy kayak paddle from Ganges Harbor.

A pivotal scene in MAGIC REDEEMED takes place on Chocolate Beach.

Which probably means I need to include a map, along with the glossary, in this next book…
